The Pollen Monitoring Network is a collaborative scientific initiative designed to track the prevalence of neonicotinoid insecticides within Ontario’s honey bee populations. By analyzing samples collected from pollen traps at various hive locations, researchers evaluate how pesticide concentrations fluctuate throughout the agricultural growing season. A primary goal of this multi-year study is to measure the impact of new government regulations intended to limit the use of treated corn and soybean seeds. Early findings indicate that chemical exposure peaks during the spring planting window and diminishes as the summer progresses.
